Reward for Your Work

You know those people in your life that always seem to have it together? Maybe their projects in school are always flawless, maybe their kids are always perfectly dressed, their car’s always spotless, maybe their makeup + hair always looks like if was professionally done? You’re probably already thinking of that person (or persons…) right now. We know that it’s impossible for people to always have their life together like that, but still. How do those people always seem to LOOK like they have it together…? I’d like to know their secret so that I can appear that way too…

2 Chronicles 15:7,
“But you, be strong and do not lose courage. For there is reward for your work.”

Sometimes, we just don’t know. We can be motoring through our week doing the same thing: wake up, take the kids to school, go to work or to classes, pick up the kids from school, make supper, do dishes, do laundry, scroll on our phones, etc. Each day can feel robotic. I find the days when real life tasks seem to hit me more are the most dangerous to be scrolling on my phone. I’m working my 9 to 5 – but so and so gets to sleep in, I’m filling my car with gas – but so and so is traveling the world right now, we all have something we could complain about #FirstWorldProblems. The devil is so good at distracting us eh? God may bless you one way and you’re happy for a moment until you look to the side and see that same so and so with something better. Don’t do that to yourself!

I had a friend share about her recent vacation to California. She mentioned how nearly everyone she came in contact with had some form of body work done. It blew my mind. To my knowledge, I don’t know anyone that’s gotten body work done for the pure reason of vanity. She said seeing everyone else like that oddly made her feel out of place. I think my friend is beautiful, fit, healthy and I couldn’t imagine why she would feel that way! But it got me thinking, yes, there is ALWAYS something we wanna change because we aren’t satisfied with who we are, the skills we have, he knowledge we’ve learnt, the life events we’ve experienced, etc.

I was reading the other day in 2 Chronicles, God’s people are in the midst of several wars and their winning some and losing others. The people of God are distracted, confused and scared. However, in chapter 15 and verse 15 it says, “All Judah [the people of God] rejoiced, for they had sworn with their whole heart and had sought Him [God] earnestly, and He let them find Him. So the Lord gave them rest on every side.” This verse totally applies to us. Right now, we are swarmed by distractions – The Devil wants to keep us totally occupied; keeping us away from seeking after Jesus with our entire heart, because the Devil knows that if we do, God will give us rest.

2 Chronicles 20:12,
“Oh our God, we are powerless against this great multitude – We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on You.”

When our eyes are on Jesus, everything that stresses us out will fade into the background. He will help us and give us rest. When we are spending our time with God instead of wishing and wanting what others have because we’re so infatuated with comparison, we will see that we don’t need what we’ve been wanting. I want to encourage you that you are not alone. He promises us that our hard work will be rewarded. We all have those people in our life that seem to have it together – I can guarantee you they don’t. Often, those are the people thinking the exact same thing about you! Trust that Christ is knitting your life together to create a beautiful picture and He may not need the same colours in your life that are in someone else’s to make your picture beautiful. Keep you eyes on Christ!

– Stay Satisfied
